Stage 1 proposals for 2020 Brighton Pavilion of the Commons

Earlier this week studio06 welcomed Stuart Devoil, Group Head of Marketing at James Latham; Josh Mitchell, furniture maker and director at 10 Tables; and co-investigator Alex Zambelli from the AHRC-funded Wastes and Strays research group for the stage 1 judging of the live build-project.

Wastes and Strays is an interdisciplinary project investigating aspects of common or common-like spaces within or adjacent to urban areas and is bringing together expertise from the Universities of Newcastle, Sheffield and Brighton. I have written about the project previously and further detail on the wider research investigation can be found here.

Studio 06 have been invited to design and fabricate a mobile pavilion sited in Brighton’s Valley Gardens in readiness for the start of the wider research project’s community engagement commencing in May 2020. The pavilion is being designed as a structure within which interviews can take place and exhibitions and information about the commons can be shared.

Projects from 3rd year students Marinos Mavrogenis, Josh Wiseman and 2nd year student Arthur Siegel will now be taken forward for consideration in the next stage of design development.
